Not a great time to be tudorbethan

Its been a bad day for tudor revival buildings.  Just read that the state government is compulsorily carving up a historic property Westerfield’s to build a new freeway

The 1929 house it seems was saved through a heritage listing.

On Mount Dandenong a suburb that’s character is defined by the Tudor Revival movement, a double storey interwar tudorbethan home was completely destroyed by fire.

Former Frankston Post Office offered Heritage Protection

The former Frankston post office, built in 1881 on the corner of Davey Street and the Nepean Highway, following temporary state protection, has been recommended by the local council to have permanent heritage protection.

Remodeled as austere interwar art deco during the interwar years, the former post office is one of few remaining heritage buildings left in Frankston’s central area.

The building has achieved some local fame as the current venue of a strip club known as “Kittens”.

Frankston Oval Grandstand destroyed by fire

The historic Frankston Oval Jamboree Grandstand, one of Frankston’s landmark heritage buildings has been destroyed by fire on the 12th February.
Arson is suspected.
The 1936 building was in the process of being restored at a cost of around $1.5 milllion which began in 2005 with the renaming to the Bryan Mace Grandstand.
This is a real blow for a fringe suburb and city which has such a great Australian Rules culture and produced so many AFL footballers over the years.
